I Loved It!

Although Opera is not the favorite thing to do for this coach --I loved our Opera outing. The Men's Locker Room Committee should be commended to taking such a bold initiative. For those that were not able to participate, what a great evening you missed. Molly Romero had a great pre-Opera party with Hal France presenting the beauty of Madame Butterfly. The food was wonderful and the explanation was excellent. For those that aren't aware of the plot of Madame Butterfly it's all about lust, deceit, love, and heart attach (involving an American sailor and a Japanese women -- all singing in Italian). The show was good and the part I enjoyed the most was watching Hal conduct the orchestra. I can't wait for the next social activity the Men's Locker Room Committee creates!

Swim Meet (it's not the Olympics)

On April 29 & 30 our group will be hosting the Breadbasket Zone Swimming Championships. Do not let the title intimidate you. It is just a swim meet with people from out of town coming to swim. If you would like to race in your stroke at your favorite distance, just to see how fast you can go, then this would be a fantastic event for you to do. Runners have an abundance of opportunities to do road races; swimmers are limited in the number of events -- so take advantage of this one. Be aware, you can save $5 if you register by April 10.

Money, More Money, and NO Money

As all of you know to be in our program you must pay an annual fee to cover USMS yearly membership (which allows you to participate in swim meets like upcoming meet) and administration. And as you know that is not the last payment for the year, each quarter you must pay again (for coaching, pool rental, and taxes). Did you know another contribution is requested to be in our program? It is called the 'Give Back' fee. The 'Give Back' fee is something that you DO to help the program or the sport of swimming in our community. Examples of help in our sport in the swimming community: volunteer coaching at a High School team (Diana Betsworth), announcing at college swim meets (Steve Scheuber), hosting a Masters swim meet in Lincoln (JB Barr), coaching young kids (Mike McKamy), being a Booster Club board member for UNO (Mary Pat Moeller), and many others. Example of helping our program: putting in the lane ropes (Erin and crew), tightening the lane ropes (Barb and associates), lane rope tightening inspection (Randy and Dave), taking out the lane ropes (Steve and team), volunteer coaches when I need a break (Erin, John, Pat, Steve, Kelvin, Mary Pat, Lori, Randy, Sue, Denny, Carie, Dave, Kristy - Thank You All), hosting the socials (Holiday, Summer, Opera), be the Meet Director for our upcoming meet (Erin Sullivan), and helping out at the upcoming April 29 & 30 swim meet (all of you). Yes the meet at the end of the month cannot just happen with one person. We have one great leader being the meet director, but more hands are needed -- mostly timers. That's correct, all you need to do is push a button and write down numbers. It is just that easy. You don't have to volunteer the whole weekend; just one day would be fine (but two is wonderful). Let Erin or Todd know if you can help. Thank you for 'Giving Back.'

The Quarter

Thank you to the following swimmers who have paid for the April, May, June quarter: Bass, Bowen, Broderick, Carmichael's, Cassling's, Dick, Edgar, Hartigan, Heim, Heller, Joslin, Korkow, Kunkel, Lorenzo, Moeller, Mullin, Murphy, Otto, Patterson's, Prince, Stratta, Sullivan, Watson, Willis, and Wingender. If you find this list in error, then please let me know -- Thank You.

Fundraiser

The Women's Team is sponsoring two fundraisers this month: plants and triathlon. The team is selling vouchers to Ferguson Florist and Greenhouse. If you do yard work or gardening consider buying a voucher. Instead of plants arriving at a certain date and location you can purchase a voucher and go buy the plants and stuff (between April 15 and May 30). Interested, then talk to Todd. On April 30 the Team puts on a triathlon called a try-athlon. As the name implies it is an event everyone can do, just give it a try.
