Fun -- Fitness -- Friends

Below is a request from UNO.

Healthy subjects are needed to participate in a study taking place in the HPER Biomechanics Laboratory. The study is investigating the effects of vascular disease on gait and healthy controls are needed to compare to the diseased population. For your participation, subjects will receive the opportunity to undergo a free gait analysis in the Biomechanics lab in order to assess running mechanics. The analysis also provides a prescription for ideal running shoes based on the person's individual pattern. This service is typically offered for a fee of $60.

Ideal participants should be male, greater than 65 years of age, and free from any lower limb orthopedic pathologies such as joint replacement or ACL injuries. Subjects would take part in a one time data collection lasting approximately two hours, that would involve a variety of walking tasks. Data will be collected using a state of the art motion capture system identical to the equipment used for motion picture special effects and video games. Data collections will take place at a scheduled time during the next few weeks. Further detail will be provided to any interested parties. For further information, please contact Sara Myers at 554-3225 or sfagan@mail.unomaha.edu.

Friends -- Swim Meets

What better place to make friends or create a tighter bond than at a swim meet. You swim a little, you cheer a little, and visit a lot. The next opportunity for a meet is coming up -- Sunday, November 26 at College of St. Mary. The meet is appropriately called Sultan of Sprint which has all the strokes in 50's and 100's -- speedsters have fun! Go check out our web site for future swim meets that we are hosting. If you have some detailed questions, you may contact Erin Sullivan at erinswim@hotmail.com.

Now if you want to watch some college swimming then December 1 & 2 is an excellent opportunity to get an up-front view of the action. Timers are needed for the Mutual of Omaha Invitational for each day at 10 am, noon, and 6 pm. If you can volunteer then please write back to tsamland@mail.unomaha.edu.

Fitness -- Eat & Exercise

The holiday season is quickly approaching. The season of eating (I love this time of year) will soon be upon us. And this means it is a good thing we also enjoy fitness. Remember the phrase, "Calories in vs. Calories out". The "calories out" is what we do best at practice. In order to help maintain that caloric expenditure -- practice will be held on Thanksgiving Day and the Friday & Saturday after Thanksgiving. Practices will be held from 7-8 am on all three of those days.

Fun - Our Holiday Social

The tentative date for this FUN event is Saturday evening, December 9th (We are waiting on confirmation from St. Matthew Lutheran Church at 60th and Walnut St). More details about this event will follow as soon as the date is confirmed. For new members, the main event of this social is an 'unusual' gift exchange that lasts a long time and provokes great competition and excessive laughter (ask your lane buddies for details)! We hope to see everyone there for a great time.

That Time of Year

It is time to pay the annual fee for the program. For the fourth year, the annual fee and the monthly fee will have no increases. The annual fee will stay at $50 and the quarterly fee will stay at $75. Over the next two weeks the yearly registration form will be handed out at practice. Please provide updates or corrections. These need to be returned by December 27 (but the earlier the better) in order to maintain our insurance for the program. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
