Cinco de Mayo - Cinco de Mayo - Cinco de Mayo - Cinco de Mayo - Cinco de Mayo

Thank you all for being part of this program. On Saturday, May 5th our program will be 4 years old. Cinco De Mayo, the revolution lives on -- the fitness revolution Come celebrate with us. First attend practice at 7 am (Saturday, May 5th) then we are going over to the Village Inn (the one directly across for College of St. Mary's). If you don't swim on Saturday's but still want pancakes, then come on by around 8:30 am.

Thank you for your input about the program. The pool temperature is being lowered to 86 degrees, which is a lot better than 88 degrees. That might be the lowest we can negotiate for the time being. Some members of our program have expressed an interest in looking for another place to practice. I am not opposed to any suggestions of other pools. If you know of a place to practice then please share your thoughts. Here are some parameters which are heavily considered:

  1. pool temperature below 86 degrees (ideally 84 degrees)
  2. will allow us in at 6 am
  3. maintain the practice time year round
  4. cooperative administration
  5. somewhat centrally located

UNO will not let the building open until after 6:30 am (and they close for the entire month of May). Not many places will let us keep the same practice time all year, when high school swimming starts we would have to change practice time or mover the program -- consistency is a major key. Having the building administrator appreciate our program is helpful. Going out to Elkhorn would be too much of a commute. Being either close to home or close to work makes our program accommodating to one's daily path. At CSM we have 4 out of the 5 items needed. There is one other option. We need someone to win the Powerball, and then build us our own facility. I am doing my part in trying to make it happen with the winning ticket, but just haven't found the right numbers yet.

It was great to see so many of our Masters swimmers participating in the UNO Try*athlon. The event had over 170 registered participants, the most ever by 60 people. Hopefully you like the event and are considering other triathlons in the future. For more events going on in the area go to http://www.teamnebraska.org, click on the race calendar button.

The President of the College of St. Mary's has decided that when the campus is closed then all facilities should be closed. This means that all religious and National holidays we will not be able to have practice. So this upcoming Memorial Day Weekend, we will not be able to have practice on Saturday nor Monday (May 26 & 28).
