April 2008 NewsletterFun -- Fitness -- FriendsOnce in a LifetimeWould you like take part in making the Olympic Trials an exciting event? Then volunteer! You may have volunteered at the original announcement of the Trials in Omaha, but if you haven't received any information then that means you need to re-apply. They are looking for a few more people -- consider the excitement. Go to the following web site http://www.mwswim.org and get involved. Swimming VacationGood news --bad news. The College of Saint Mary's pool is getting a fresh coat of paint. Unfortunately it means draining the pool, because they are painting the inside of the pool. But it will be nice to have crisp-clean-clear lines on the bottom and complete crosses on the walls to help judge the turns. Our last day to swim at CSM will be May 5th and we will be without a home until after Memorial Day. This is just too long for me to be away from you swimmers, so this is the plan I would like to shoot by you . . . we'll call it Vacation Time. I have worked out an agreement with Brownell-Talbot for some pool time, so B-T will be our 'vacation pool.' (click here for a google map page) We get three lanes on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Then on Tuesday and Thursday we get all six lanes. All of these days are at our traditional times. Since we have a 33% reduction in total lane availability per week, this is what I would like to propose -- a sign up for times to swim. Everyone will get two swims per week, you must pick two days and stick to those two days each week. E-Mail your requests to samland@unomaha.edu. The swimmers who have been in the program the longest (Group 1) will have between April 18-21 to reserve their swim times, between April 22-25 will be the next group of swimmers (Group 2), then the newbies (Group 3) can choose from April 26-29. At the end of each cycle I will mail the current schedule to all Masters swimmers. After the final group, then anyone can sign up for additional times available. I am planning for 5-7 people per lane, which leads to the next part of the 'vacation time', the 'vacation practices.' On vacation we will do no distances over 100 (no 200's or 300's --that is a great vacation). We will focus more on drills and technique. By moving to a 'vacation practice' of being technique based then we can work better with a variety of abilities in a lane. Vacation can be so much fun and I hope to see everyone at Swim Vacation!! It is understood that vacation is not for everyone. So if this 'vacation time' is not working out for you then your program fees for the month of May will be advanced to pay for July of the next quarter. If neither of these plans work for you then let's talk about our options (except no choices or discussion for Ed Willis). Cinco De MayoOur program started on May 5, 2003 -- Viva La Revolution! Yes, the fitness revolution is still alive and well -- so let's celebrate. We shall celebrate with food, specifically with breakfast food. After practice on Saturday, May 2nd we will be going to Petro's for breakfast. Coach buys everyone their favorite drink -- they have milk shakes (and this is why we have fitness). Group One (April 18-21 to reserve their swim times)
Group Two (April 22-25 to reserve their swim times)
Group Three (April 26-29 to reserve their swim times)
