Omaha Masters September 2005 NewsletterHi Swimmers, the below is the cut and paste version of our newsletter without some of the little graphics. - Todd Fun -- Fitness -- FriendsRubber Hits the RoadThis is an excerpt from the very first Masters e-mail back in May of 2003: The price will consist of three elements; an annual fee, a monthly fee, and what I call a "give back fee." The annual fee will be $50. The annual fee will cover a USMS membership and additional business functions (mostly additional insurance). If you already have a USMS membership the annual fee will be reduced to $25. All USMS memberships will be registered as Omaha Masters Swim Club unless otherwise requested. The monthly fee will have different levels: weekly - $10, monthly - $30, and quarterly - $75. No yearly fee will be offered at this time. The monthly fees will cover coaching expenses, pool rental, and taxes. Let me explain the "give back fee." It is my intention to coach people who give back to the sport/activity they enjoy swimming. It will be administered on the honor system, you tell me what you would like to do and then go do it. Giving back can take many different forms. You can help put-in/take-out lane ropes. You can be a booster club member. You can be a volunteer coach for our program. You can assist a high school team. You can play the National Anthem at a swim meet. You can help put on a Masters meet. You can host a social. You can be a meet official. Just do something for swimming, preferably with our program but it can also be with another swimming program. On The Road -- An Update to this Point The fees will not change again for the upcoming year. And here are some of the things that people have done to give back to the swimming community: timed at swim meets, gone to Masters convention, put in lane ropes before practice (coach really appreciates it), put away lane ropes after practice (coach really appreciates it), joined a swim booster club, gone to a swim meet, taken pictures at swim meets, gave presentations at clinics, and so many other things. Another way you can give back is by participating in the College of Saint Mary's Champions Walk to be held on Saturday, October 8. This is a benefit for athletics at the College of Saint Mary and a project to promote sportsmanship at all levels. Call Leigh Officer at 399-2332. The End is Near The final quarter of the year is upon us. Please pay within the first week of October for October, November, and December. The End is Just the Beginning As mentioned above the yearly fee will remain at $50. Statements will be given at practice or mailed to you in the month of November for the upcoming year of 2006. Little Notes The UNOmaha Women's Swim & Dive Team is back into full swing. If you can help with any of the following dates, then please get back to me: Saturday, October 15; Friday, November 4; and Saturday, November 5. Tuesday is the busiest practice & Monday and Saturday are the lest busy practices. World Championships will be August 4-10, 2006, at Stanford University. Several of our members are planning on attending... Start your planning now! |
