January 2006 Newsletter

Fun -- Fitness -- Friends

Welcome to the New Year!

Hopefully you enjoying the month of January with it's nice weather. Everyone has done a great job of signing up for 2006, thank you very much. We currently have 68 swimmers signed up for 2006. If you no longer swim with us but would still like to receive the newsletters, then e-mail me back and you name will continue to stay on the list. Now we need to have people pay for the first quarter of 2006. Only 29 of the 68 have paid at this point. You can pay for the first quarter or you can pay for the whole year. If you are not sure if you have paid just e-mail me and I will let you know.

Always Fun!

Thanks to everyone who came to the Holiday Social (and those swimmers WHO organized it). It was so much fun. Another thank goes out to a group of individuals who helped keep the program going while I was banished to Hawaii . Thank you to Mary Pat Moeller and Erin Sullivan for being the gate keeper. And for doing a great job of coaching, thank you dictators: Randy Cassling, Lori Cassling, Kristy DeLong, Dave Andersen, John Hartigan, Pat Prince, Kelvin Thurman, Steve Scheuber, and Erin Sullivan.

More Fun!

The Holiday Social is always fun and another fun event is coming later this Spring! The famed Locker Room Committee is planning a Masters Night at the Opera. Dinner will first be at Mark's Bistro in Dundee, along with a preview of the Opera by Hal France. Then we will leave from there to watch the show at the Orpheum. The date set is March 25. For more details go to our website, http://www.omahamastersswim.com,

Skip Saturday Practice!

Have you wanted to try a swim meet? Well now is an opportunity to enjoy a low key event. JB Barr has put together a swim meet in Lincoln for January 28 at 9 am. This is a great way to get out of distance practice on Saturday and instead go do a sprint practice by participating in the meet. Open the below attachment for the official meet entry form. Remember to take your USMS card with you!

Good Thoughts always help!

One of long time swimmers, over 20 years, went in for surgery over a week ago. John Hartigan, one of our volunteer coaches, was diagnosed with possible cancer of the pancreas. His surgery went extremely well and he will need to rest and recover for at least six to eight weeks. Erin Sullivan is bringing a "get well" card to practice on occasion, consider jotting down a note of encouragement. We hope to see him back soon!

As a final note, practice attendance has leveled out among the days. Each day we average about 23 swimmers at the pool; that is awesome! - Todd
