Help needed hosting the Dave Babcook Memorial Stage Race on June 3rd and 4th 2006I need to ask a favor: the bike team I'm part of (Team Kaos, http://www.teamkaoscycling.com) is again hosting the Dave Babcook Memorial Stage Race on June 3rd & 4th. This is a 3-stage event occurring in the metro Omaha area (Saturday's two stages are just west of Elkhorn, Sunday is in downtown). Our race raises money for the Babcook Family Research Fund at the UNMC Epply Cancer Center. Dave Babcook was a local cyclist who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in 2001. As you know, all events need volunteers to be successful, and ours is no exception. On Saturday morning I need people who can be available from about 0730 - 1100 to serve as corner marshals. They would stand at road intersections with a vest and flag to make sure motorists know there's a race in progress. Not a glamorous job but vital for safety. We also need people for 2 hours from 0600 - 0800 to help setup the start and finish line. Also Saturday morning from 0730 - 1100 I need a few more people who can and are willing to drive their vehicles as race support, carrying spare wheels and maybe a race official. They would have to sign a waiver to do this and people with trucks and SUVs are preferred since you can't fit many wheels inside a sedan (or similar) vehicle. Saturday afternoon I need people from 1230 - 1500 to be corner marshals, and after 1500 we need people to help tear down the start and finish area. One - two hour assignment there. All of these would take place west and north of Elkhorn. Saturday afternoon the activity is centered around Mt. Michael Abby. All day Sunday I need course marshalls. We run them in two shifts: 0730 - 1130, and 1130 - 1630. This is our area of greatest need. Sunday is in downtown, around the 16th and Howard area. If you can ask your Masters swimmers and women from the UNO team to help, we would greatly appreciate it. I am the contact point for this so please have them contact me with questions or commitments. USE THIS LINK to view the race flyer that gives more detail for those who want it. Thanks again for your time and consideration. Mark Brackenbury |
