9-8-7-6 Drill
The "9-8-7-6 drill" is usually done during a 200 yard swim. The 200 yard swim is subdivided into 4 continuous 50 yard swims with your hands in each of the following positions for the indicated 50 yard portion of the swim:

We call this the "9-8-7-6 drill" in honor of our hearing-impaired friends. These hand positions, as it turns out, are similar to the American Sign Language (ASL) "signs" for the numbers 9, 8, 7, and 6, respectively. Some days, the coach makes sure we're paying attention and tells us to do the 6-7-8-9 drill...
